| "Reggie" CD Review Ontap Magazine March 2008 BUY THIS CD A jammy, sometimes face-melting rocking effort from local. Perfect for those who just like to get lost in the music. Simple and fun. "This is Exactly What I Planned" CD Review Ontap Magazine November 2006 by Chris Connelly BUY THIS CD I'm fairly sure that Rob Hornfeck has no aspirations to be famous; this killer guitar player simply wants to write songs that he and his friends are going to like. If he picks up some fans along the way, then all that much better. TIEWIP is a mash up of styles, all putting Hornfeck's songwriting and guitar skills on prominent display. In some regards, Hornfeck comes across like an electrified Keller Williams or a more straightforward Les Claypool, with a soulful funk groove permeating throughout most of his music. Likely to appeal to jamband fans, Hornfeck is talented and accomplishes what he set out to do with TIEWIP. Ultimately, it is either for you or it isn't-there is likely very little middle ground here. "How Do I Know You?" CD Review www.impactpress.com / April 2004 by Marty Kelley BUY THIS CD Hey. One guy does it all. It must be pisser to see him live. Rob is obviously an excellent songwriter and a multi talented musician. These songs are well written and fun. A broad and occasionally disorienting array of styles and influences make this very easy to listen to. Catchy riffs make it one you will want to listen to again and again. "How Do I Know You?" CD Review On-Tap Magazine / September 2003 by Aaron Cunningham BUY THIS CD I kept asking myself the same questions over and over as I listened to How Do I Know You?, the latest release from Rob Hornfeck: Who blends influences this way? Who writes songs like this? Is this guy for real? This guy is for real. And he's not alone. Rob Hornfeck is a talented local multi-instrumentalist who brings his demented musical vision to clubs throughout the region along with his co-conspirators, The Rob Hornfeck Enterprise. Hornfeck clearly has a background in composition, but the nine songs on How Do I Know You? come across as well written, rather than overly technical. He obviously has a wide range of influences, but the songs create a mood rather than sounding like drunken jukebox selections. Each song has a balance that is reflected in its featured elements. The instrument that catches your ear at any moment does so by virtue of a strong performance rather than by surges in volume, and the vocals are no exception. While Hornfeck's voice doesn't soar, his vocals are mixed to ensure the lyrics are clear and stand out from the instruments. The only quarrel I have with How Do I Know You? is the packaging. Its Spartan nature doesn't really fit with the depth of the performances it accompanies. The liner notes are limited to minimal credits and a track listing. The photos are in black and white, which is a stark contrast to the colorful music on the CD. But this is a minor matter. If you enjoy challenging, intellectual music, check out the music of Rob Hornfeck. This guy is for real. "How Do I Know You?" CD Review Music Monthly Magazine / May 2003 by Laurin Wollan BUY THIS CD Sometimes I just get something across my desk that makes me laugh so damn hard I often get surprised that I am still alive. This month it was The Rob Hornfeck Enterprise and their album, How Do I Know You? I mean seriously, just look at the pic! The album is odd, very odd. I wonder if it really is comic genius. If they are really serious, I am fearful. It strikes me as Weenlike with a healthy dose of early Beck thrown in for a smidgeon of good taste. "Run, Rerun" is a great tune with some Zappatista confluence. The music consists of two guitars, a bass and drums with some percussion. I have no idea who plays on the disc other than Numba One. I cannot wait to find out who Numba Two is. "Eugenius" starts out with an interesting acoustic vibe then spirals down with a Devoesque down-tempo-synthy-metallic vibe with some sany, and I do mean really zany, Eastern Airlines influenced synthesizers. I have no idea anymore. I think the end is really near. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, remember Men Without Hats" Check out "OBX" and you will know what I mean... |
